china binge and the olympics spirit

I'm definitely on a China binge right now. I guess I also have the excuse to chalk it up as getting back to my roots. But more likely, it's the Olympics only 2 days away. The Soho Ralph Lauren store is displaying his Olympics designed wares, which are expectedly as tight as can be in that WASP-y, sexy sort of way. In the festive spirit, I recently bought Chinese Vogue from Universal News on Broadway and Grand. The cover featured one of my favorite Chinese actresses, Maggie Cheung in a get-up of badminton shuttlecocks (how British is that word! repressed and sexual at the same time). Known for her collaborations with famed Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai and her former husband, French director Oliver Assayas, Ms. Cheung is also a surprising 44 years old. Damn, that's an aging goal to aim for, especially since it's well-known that Ms. Cheung is an avid cigarette indulger. The Vogue China site also has advertising from the usual luxury brands but with campaigns that are markedly different from the West. Like the Miss Dior Cherie campaign is a cutesy mix of pink and white peonies with downloadable wallpaper. lagatalista.blogspot.com
