A friend of mine in the textile industry recently told me that with the firestorm shaking down everything from fashion mags to boutiques, the forward thinking have to move on from the good ‘ol days to a new business model. Sounds like that’s what one of our favorite British lifestyle magazines, Monocle, has done with their new real wall and doors shop just off London’s Marylebone High Street. Eating turkey with dollops of cranberry and brussel sprouts with maple syrup glaze are on the top of my priority list. Which means when that tryptophan kicks in, I am not going to be one of those sales-crazed shoppers fighting over handbags at Saks (where everything is on sale) or elbowing past bundled up shoppers on the streets of Soho. I just haven’t sharpened my fingernails. But luckily for the lazy and docile like me, I can sit on my cushy sofa and watch reruns of Entourage, with my iBook on my lap, trolling the online sales.
